Research tells me that my diet may affect my baby’s health even before I become pregnant and taking a prenatal vitamin may actually help increase fertility, reduce the risk of birth defects, lessen bouts of morning sickness and minimize the risk of delivering a baby who is small for his or her gestational age! So a reassuring strategy is to simply take a prenatal vitamin prior to conception. Sounds good to me!

Friends, have you been to the pharmacy lately? Well, I went today to pick up prenatal vitamins and this happened…

Wow…Just Wow! There are so many choices, so many brands…How do I choose? HELP!

This is what the Mayo Clinic suggests in choosing a prenatal vitamin:

“Generally, look for a prenatal vitamin that contains: Folic acid, Calcium, Iron. It also might be beneficial to look for a prenatal vitamin that contains vitamin D, vitamin C, vitamin A, vitamin E, zinc and copper.”

And I must not forget that a prenatal vitamin always goes with a healthy well-balanced diet; it does not replace it.

Well, this is a good starting point…I’m off to the cashier to purchase!
